Community-Based Learning -  WFREA, in partnership with Wisconsin School Forest Program, offers a 5-day course entitled: Forests and Forestry in a Landscape Context:  A Community-Based Learning Program for School Forests. Participants receive training in place-based and project-based education strategies, model field activities for grades 4-12, resources and equipment.

We have two course scheduled for the summer of 2008. We will post more information as it becomes available. You can see resources for the the Summer '07 courses at the link above.

The Forestry Minute - We are working in partnership with the WDNR-Division of Forestry to develop the Issues in Sustainable Forestry Series that facilitates investigation into the challenges and opportunities for sustainable forest management in Wisconsin. This series will be part of a statewide outreach effort including radio broadcasts, web resources, and the development of a forestry education stakeholder network. A collaborative outreach strategy will be developed during the Forestry Education Summit that we are planning for the summer of 2008. Wisconsin Forests Forever CD-ROM packet - Designed for students in Grades 4-6, the CD-ROM is accompanied by a teacher's guide correlated to Wisconsin's Model Academic Standards (environmental education, science, social studies, language arts, and math). Within each content standard, one or more of the performance standards is addressed. The CD-ROM packet also includes several posters and brochures.

How to Grow a School Forest - This is the first manual in Wisconsin to aid teachers in adapting their school forests into working outdoor classrooms. It assists educators with the process of getting started, recording growth, gathering information, beginning the master planning process, and developing and implementing a school forest master plan.
